The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Administrative Services Division (ASD) Information Services Section is seeking a GIS Analyst III to join our team and help us Keep Alaska Moving!

The use of spatial data and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is rapidly expanding within the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF). As a result, the Information Systems and Services Division (ISSD), Geospatial Engineering Services section (GES) is looking for an experienced and motivated GIS professional to join our growing section. Roles and Responsibilities
This position has three primary responsibilities within ISSD/GES:
  • Data Collection: Lead the GIS data collection program and activities for ISSD/GES. These duties directly support the department's state and federal reporting and program requirements.
  • GIS Project Coordination: Serve as a GIS coordinator for projects that require collaboration between the business unit and ISSD/GES. The coordinator is the primary GIS point of contact for the business unit staff for a given project and is responsible for developing GIS solutions that address the needs of the business unit and fit with the long term goals and vision for enterprise GIS.
  • Geodatabase Administration: Assist the GES geodatabase administrator in geodatabase development and management activities. The assistant role offers an opportunity for learning and professional growth and provides backup coverage when the geodatabase administrator is unavailable.

Knowledge, Skills, and Expertise
Candidates for this position should have a diverse blend of demonstrated knowledge, skills, and experience in the following areas:
  • Spatial data collection hardware, software, and techniques
  • Project management principles and practices
  • Project budget management
  • ArcGIS applications (Desktop, Enterprise, ArcGIS Online...)
  • Spatial analysis and reporting
  • Cartographic production (hardcopy and web-based)
  • Develop geoprocessing scripts and tools
  • Time management and prioritization (to successfully manage multiple concurrent projects)
  • Verbal and written communication (including the ability to communicate project requirements to a wide range of customers)
  • Ability to build consensus among a group of diverse stakeholders
  • Teach and mentor staff
  • Translate a business need into a data model and a geodatabase
  • Integrate business data with spatial data
  • Create and administer personal, file and Microsoft SQL geodatabases

Minimum Qualifications
One year of professional experience equivalent to GIS Analyst II with the State of Alaska.
