The Alaska Hydrography Database (AK Hydro) is a statewide collaborative stewardship model used to generate hydrography updates for the NHD and implement local attributes standards that are critical to Alaska (ie. fish habitat, channel classification). The AK Hydro stewardship model is coordinated through ACCS with numerous federal, state, academic, non-profit, tribal and local agency partners.

The incumbent will support the mission of ACCS in the collection, management and validation of data with a special focus on Alaska Hydrography Updates in the Landscape Ecology Program.

Duties Include:
  • Manage support and maintenance of AK Hydro IT infrastructure with technology partners. Manage AK Hydro's ArcGIS Server and coordinate spatial database replication with partners. Work directly with editors/partners to address and follow up on issues with the data or workflow. Address and fix AK Hydro Data conflict resolutions. Address and support anything that is of immediate concern in the database or data.
  • Ad Hoc AK Hydro support to assist the Coordinator and Technical Steward with hydrography edits, updates, conflation and coordination with partner agencies. Provide updates the AK Hydro website with updated hydrography data, web map services and status updates as needed.
  • Provide support for AK Hydro documentation including writing, formatting and editing technical and user documentation. Answering user questions and queries pertaining to workflow. Yearly database service window maintenance and support, including database schema updates, coordinating with partners to meet local and statewide data needs. Data Analysis and Reporting: Performs quality assurance and quality control on spatial and tabular data. Enters data into a relational database (eg. Microsoft Access or Excel) and SDE database (Microsoft SQL Server). Manipulates data to produce tabular products for reports. Organizes and manipulates spatial data in ArcGIS. Produces maps and other spatial products for projects, presentations, and publications. Assists supervisors with editing reports and publications.

The incumbent will use a variety of computer programs and procedures to assemble, document, and share data created by Great Smoky Mountain National Parks Natural Resources Inventory and Monitoring Program. The position requires the incumbent to be innovative, versatile, and creatively solve problems while adhering to data standards and guidelines, Collects and organizes natural resource data from principal investigators, ecologists and natural resource specialists. By working closely with principal investigators, coordinates and facilitates the process of developing finished products (databases, spreadsheets, reports, analyses, maps, geospatial coverage) from raw or draft data sets. The Department of Fish and Game, Division of Wildlife Conservation is recruiting a GIS Analyst to be located in Fairbanks. This position will play a critical role in developing GIS capabilities for Wildlife Conservation staff and projects serving Interior and Northeastern arctic Alaska (Region III).

We are seeking an individual with strong GIS analytical and development skills with a particular interest in wildlife research and management. This position will provide a unique opportunity to participate in development of a GIS program for a scientific organization and to work on diverse wildlife research and management projects associated with a variety of species including black bear, grizzly bear, moose, wolf, caribou, musk ox, wolverine, sheep, various furbearers, small mammals, and game birds.

This position will work in close cooperation with biological, programming and biometric staff to design and develop GIS methodologies, tools, applications, and databases to directly support wildlife management and research activities. It will serve as the principal GIS technical resource in Region III for consultation on, collecting, processing, and analyzing complex geospatial data.
