DGGS is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Geologist who is interested to expand their knowledge of GIS and digital geologic map making. The incumbent will learn how to prepare geologic map GIS data for incorporation in an authoritative statewide GIS database of Alaska geologic information and the national repository for geologic data managed by the U.S. Geological Survey. DGGS' geologic data management system uses an Alaska-pioneered, extended national data standard (AK GeMS) for geologic maps based on ESRI ArcGIS software. Preparing GIS files for dissemination to the public and agencies is the primary duty of the position. As part of the DGGS Mineral Resources Section, the incumbent will also be a team member on geologic mapping projects and other DGGS projects as needed.

The National Park Service is looking for the next cohort of GIS Interns! There are over 20 opportunities for students and recent graduates (within 2 years) to join the program, which is a partnership with Southern Utah University. This program allows interns to work at national park units and regional offices across the country to support geospatial projects and develop skills such as data management, cartography, mobile mapping, and programming. Each internship offers a unique experience and most opportunities include park housing or are approved for remote work. Internships begin in October and run for either 16 or 24 weeks.
