Meeting Presentation: Conservation GIS

Presentation: Conservation GIS that Matches the Scale of Alaska
Speaker: E. Jamie Trammell, Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies, UAA
Date: May 20, 2015, 12:00 - 1:00 PM

View Presentation

Abstract: Rapid Ecoregional Assessments (REAs) are part of the recently developed landscape approach to enhance management of public lands by the Bureau of Land Management. REAs are designed to address current and future landscapes by transcending management boundaries and synthesizing data at the ecoregional scale. REAs geospatially evaluate the condition of regionally significant ecological resources given known and expected changes due to climate change, wildfire, invasive species and human land use and development.

The Alaska Natural Heritage Program (AKNHP), in collaboration with the Scenarios Network for Alaska and Arctic Planning (SNAP) and Institute of Social and Economic Research (ISER), are performing REAs in three regions across Alaska (Yukon-Kuskokwim, Central Yukon, and the North Slope). This presentation will highlight some of the seamless GIS datasets created as part of the REAs. Also highlighted will be the various ways in which this data is, and will be, available to GIS users statewide.
