The incumbent is responsible for the development, management, coordination and implementation of the Geographic Information System (GIS) for the Intermountain Region. This includes the following:
  • Enhancing Region-wide capability in GIS
  • Administering Regional GIS funding
  • Providing leadership, coordination and assistance in GIS staffing, skill development, and national data standards
  • Represents the interest of the NPS and the Region on service-wide and Federal Agency-wide committees regarding GIS issues and needs
  • Coordinates with other Federal, State and local agencies on large data collection efforts to support parks and the Region
  • Assists GIS and resources management staffs by providing direct professional and programmatic advice and support
  • Negotiates cooperative and inter-agency agreements and other cooperative instruments needed to carry out GIS programs to meet resource stewardship goals
  • Manages and integrates a variety of GIS and database management software
  • Prepares GIS plans, data dictionaries, resources management plan project statements related to GIS, project proposals, GIS-related contract and agreement specifications and written reports
  • Plans, executes and supervises field work in remote environments to generate new and verified mapped information
  • Supervises permanent, temporary, student interns, seasonal and other personnel
