The Alaska ArcUser Group and National Park Service partnered
up this year to provide three 45 minute GPS seminars at the annual Alaska
Sportsmans Show. Thanks to Chris Harrington, Chris F. and Lucas Gasek
(Dowl HKM), Jean Tam, Robert Strobe and Regan Sarwas who all provided able
assistance to the public. The seminar began inside with a 10 minute
overview of GPS, compass, and maps then was followed by marking various waypoints
with government supplied Garmin Map76CSx personal navigation devices. Participants
also learned to combine map reading skills and magnetic compasses to find their
way back home. We hope to continue this collaboration for all future
Sportsman show events. See you next year!
